I used to work in nursing homes as a support worker, I also worked as an agency staff member working in different care homes, and in individual homes as a live-in carer for 5 years. The duties included, cleaning, bathing, shower, oral care, preparing and cooking meals, prompting exercises and administration of medication according to the doctors instructions. When I'm visiting a new client, I start by reading their care plan if there is one or taking notes at the handover from a member of staff or a family member this will give me an idea of what needs to be done first. For instance my last client used to get up at 08:00 goes to the toilet, brushes teeth, then shower, dressed into clean clothes, read a book for 25 minutes and then breakfast; and most importantly liaising with the client including them in every decision making. Communication is vital in care work, reporting any concerns to family members on a daily basis and to the management team. Keeping information private and confidential all the times. I have enjoyed working as a support care assistant, for it made a difference to the service users and have appreciated the acknowledgement they give when they have achieved their goals with the help of the support worker. I would like to continue making a difference to people's lives because it gives myself satisfaction. I have a patient and cheerful attitude, working constantly hard, giving respect and dignity to clients. I also encourage independence for my clients to do walking exercises if they can or sitting exercises, and things like brushing hair/teeth. I also enjoy following a recipe when cooking and baking. Baking= fruit cakes, madeira cakes, scones Cooking=Sunday roast, shepherd's pie, home made soups, macaroni cheese etc. Hobbies and interests. During my spare time I enjoy travelling, reading news papers, current affairs, novels and magazines, knitting, going to church and spending time with my friends and family members. I've down loaded covid-19 vaccination card as a proof to show you that I was injected twice to protect myself from catching the CV19 virus.
