I previously helped to care for my disabled nephew, born with a brain disorder, for 15 years. I then worked as an administrator in a day centre for adults with learning difficulties for 25 years from 1986 to 2011, and as a carer from 2006 to the present day. I am passionate about caring for others and often take the time to assist members of the public who may need help on and off public transport, crossing the road, acting as an advocate for someone who may not be vocal, or helping someone who needs assistance with personal issues. I am always eager to help and willing to stay after my shift without prior notice if an emergency arises. I am a good listener and enjoy talking with individuals about their lives. I have been trained in all fields of care and what I enjoy most is the positive feedback I receive from both individuals and their families. During my role as a carer, I am honoured to have been nominated to take on the role of a care field supervisor due to my hard work and experience. I have also been awarded carer of the month on three occasions. My experience spans over 30 years, working in both day centres and residential settings. The client groups I have experience with include learning and physical disabilities, the elderly, dementia care, mental health, children and families, and alcohol and drug abuse. I have worked within local authorities, care agencies, and care companies. My role is to enable people to live independently in their own homes by empowering them to take part in and control their own lives. This includes supporting people with personal care, toileting, medication handling, managing money, shopping, cleaning, waking night support, sitting to relieve live-in carers, cooking, and more. I have acquired various skills through training, including excellent communication skills, which are required for your day to run smoothly, and organisational skills to ensure tasks are carried out safely. I hold many certificates in care and continue to update them as they reach their expiry date. As a carer, I consider myself to be upstanding and highly professional in all aspects of my work. One of the most memorable moments in my career was when I helped an elderly gentleman regain his confidence in managing his daily activities after a stroke. Seeing his progress and the gratitude from his family was incredibly rewarding. I am grateful for the opportunities I have had in my career and the positive impact my work has had on the individuals I have cared for.

Yvonne is a fantastic carer ; punctual, reliable and cares about the cared for person. Yvonne listens to what is required for the client and is patient, she also takes the time to put the client at ease and is adaptable if the patient is not willing to engage. She will also spend those extra minutes - plus! And ensures that everything is completed and client is settled.
