W14 9BP 204647 Hello, I'm a DBS checked British woman with a NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care, and I have about ten years of experience of working as a carer of the elderly in their own homes (both on a live in and live out basis). I consider my self to be kind, hard working, empathetic and patient as well as having a good sense of humour, and I enjoy being able to support my clients to live as independently as possible in their own homes, and to live life on their terms and with dignity as well as them benefiting from remaining in a familiar environment, and I enjoy getting to know my clients and and what their interests and preferences are as I perform my duties. My current preference is for short term holiday cover care, respite care and post hospital discharge Live in care positions, (generally lasting from about one week to about a month) and I'm also open to doing some ad hoc live-out care visits, in between my live in care assignments. And in addition to working in London, I'm also happy to consider placements across England and possibly other parts of the UK (if the client will cover my return travel expenses from London). Also please note that whilst I passed my driving test when I was 18; as I never owned a car and I haven't driven since then, I prefer placements which are suitable for non-drivers and which are within a short walking distance of amenities such as supermarkets and/or public transport. Most of my caring experience has been supporting mainly elderly clients with a wide range of health conditions including: (early to mid stage) dementia, Parkinson's Disease, hearing and visual impairments, arthritis, diabetes, incontinence care, post operative care, brain injury, cancer, general frailty of old age, and clients with anxiety and depression. And my preference is to work for elderly clients who are still weight bearing and mobile (with or without walking aids and/or light assistance) and who normally require minimal night time assistance (for live in care assignments). I'm happy to assist with all the usual activities of daily living, companionship, admin tasks, collecting prescriptions and prompting medications, personal care, grooming, hygiene, shopping, cooking, housework, laundry, light gardening and accompanying clients to appointments as well as liaising with family members and others involved in the clients' health care as required. After completing my London based university degree in 1997, whilst spending some months travelling and studying Buddhism in India, I met an Australian fellow traveller who mentioned she had been working as a live in carer and that she highly recommended it, which is what originally gave me the idea to enter this work, as caring comes naturally to me and I enjoy working in a home environment also. And in addition to travelling I enjoy reading, listening to music, visiting museums, and art galleries, cooking, and spending time in nature. In addition to the health conditions I've already mentioned that I have experience with, I've also assisted some of my clients to request Occupational Therapy, District Nurse and physiotherapy assessments and GP appointments when required, and I've also cared for several clients some years back who required catheter care and for one client who I assisted with stoma care, so I'm also happy to care for clients with those care needs if the current carer will give me a handover to show me the specific assistance needed with that. I enjoy cooking healthy and nutritionally balanced meals for my clients ( and I'm very experienced at preparing and cooking a good range of dishes that include meat, fish and vegetarian and vegan meals or other special diets such as Kosher food (according to my clients' meal preferences and personal and cultural dietary requirements, as well as taking into account any know food allergies). And I myself follow a vegan diet so I usually prepare my clients' meals separately but I'm happy to eat with my clients to keep them company if they wish. And most of my previous clients have provided me with a negotiable modest pre-agreed weekly food budget to cover my meals during live-in care placements (usually of about £40 per week). Also whilst my preference is to work either within the Greater London area or the South East, I'm also happy to travel up to about 100 miles in any direction from London (to fixed term live-in care placements which are located within short walking distance of food shops/amenities), as long as the client is willing to cover all or most of my return economy class travel expenses to and from placements (within a pre-agreed limit). Also in terms of my availability for fixed term/short term live in placements, I'm next available from the afternoon of 05/02/23 for assignments lasting anything from about one week up to about a month at a time. Thank you for taking the time to read my profile, and please don' t hesitate to get in touch if you would like to discuss your care requirements with me. 1 1 {"field_week_day_first":1,"field_is_available_first":true,"field_care_type_first":"3","field_week_day_second":2,"field_is_available_second":true,"field_care_type_second":"3","field_week_day_third":3,"field_is_available_third":true,"field_care_type_third":"3","field_week_day_fourth":4,"field_is_available_fourth":true,"field_care_type_fourth":"3","field_week_day_fifth":5,"field_is_available_fifth":true,"field_care_type_fifth":"3","field_week_day_sixth":6,"field_is_available_six":true,"field_care_type_sixth":"3","field_week_day_seven":7,"field_is_available_seven":true,"field_care_type_seven":"3"}

It was not something I'd imagined while studying computer science at Cambridge. Many years were spent in the tech industry, but that career did not give me any personal satisfaction. While living abroad 20 years ago, I was struck by a car whilst walking on the pavement. As a result, I spent months in hospital and in recovery for the better part of a year. I became a carer two years ago, and I draw upon this experience and channel my empathy to all the men I look after. In the years I've been a carer, my personal approach to care-giving has yielded significant results. To give one example: the connection and trust I built with one 93-year old gentleman led him to stop sleeping on the living room sofa and start sleeping in his hospital bed in his bedroom for the first time in years. He'd been very resistant, but now sees the benefits: he cited having a good night's sleep and less back pain. Preparing fresh food for him also made a big difference, and he is now eating at least one full meal a day. In so many small ways, I know I am making a difference - from ensuring their hearing aids or internet connection are working to connecting with their friends or medical assistants, my approach can best be summed up as personal, tailored, and empathetic. I principally serve SW15, but please call me if you are slightly outside that area and I believe that I can help you. {"field_week_day_first":1,"field_is_available_first":"0","field_care_type_first":null,"field_week_day_second":2,"field_is_available_second":"0","field_care_type_second":null,"field_week_day_third":3,"field_is_available_third":"0","field_care_type_third":null,"field_week_day_fourth":4,"field_is_available_fourth":"0","field_care_type_fourth":null,"field_week_day_fifth":5,"field_is_available_fifth":"0","field_care_type_fifth":null,"field_week_day_sixth":6,"field_is_available_six":"0","field_care_type_sixth":null,"field_week_day_seven":7,"field_is_available_seven":"0","field_care_type_seven":null}
