In 2015 I became a full-time carer and started my career working for an agency where I received all the professional training and got the carer certificate. In January 2016 I received the British Carer Awards in the category newcomer for the city of London, which I am very proud of. I have been working with the elderly living with dementia and Alzheimers for over 6 years. Since I started working as a home carer I have found that I love what I do; I can make a real difference in people's lives and I find this incredibly rewarding. It gives me a great deal of pleasure to deliver elderly care, especially as I am away from my older relatives. In my search to learn new skills to try to improve the quality of life of my clients, I learnt how music is a powerful tool to help people living with Alzheimer's. In September 2018 I did a course in Spanish called ‘Music for Awaking’ which is a kind music activity that works with autobiographical and personalised playlists for people living with late stages of dementia. I am qualified in providing music activity as a form of therapy. Music is a very powerful tool to help people with dementia/Alzheimer's and I love watching loved ones able to reconnect or have some identity back when they listen to the music of their past.
