Most of my clients I have cared for for 5-6 years in domiciliary care .I have been a Carer for 9 years. Some clients had physical issues some mental. Some just needed companionship. I have been told one of my strengths is good communication. I did a short English language course in Brighton in Sussex where I fell in love with England. I went back to Finland after my course back to grammar school. Then when little older I returned to England this time to London where I lived in Central London for decades. I have a grown up daughter now and I stay with her sometimes. I did domiciliary care for nearly 7 years in Surrey where we moved eventually but now I do mostly Live in care. I have cared for people with many different issues over the years some younger than myself some 100 and even over. Some just wanted companionship or running the household. I have experience of Parkinsons Disease End of life care Dementia Down Syndrome Autistic Spectrum Disorder to name a view I have been told by my Care Manager that I have good communication skills. I have no prejudice. I respect others and expect it from others. I returned to England to London this time where I lived and worked for decades. Then I moved to Surrey. My interests are anything to do with the house. I like to improve my surroundings. House and Garden is one of my favourite magazines. I go to auctions and antique fairs and art exhibitions, I love music and dancing from Classic FM to Pop. I have even tried Flamenco and Salsa.I am also interested in Current Affairs. I like cars and driving but also walking , I could not live without TV. I need to see what is happening in the world and I enjoy shows like Strictly Come Dancing and some of the soaps and documentaries. In my care work I truly care and I follow person centred care. To me care is not just a job. However I work within professional boundaries. I have cared for many amazing people and of course sadly some are not with us anymore. One of my clients was 100. While living abroad 20 years ago, I was struck by a car whilst walking on the pavement. As a result, I spent months in hospital and in recovery for the better part of a year. I became a carer two years ago, and I draw upon this experience and channel my empathy to all the men I look after. In the years I've been a carer, my personal approach to care-giving has yielded significant results. To give one example: the connection and trust I built with one 93-year old gentleman led him to stop sleeping on the living room sofa and start sleeping in his hospital bed in his bedroom for the first time in years. He'd been very resistant, but now sees the benefits: he cited having a good night's sleep and less back pain. Preparing fresh food for him also made a big difference, and he is now eating at least one full meal a day. In so many small ways, I know I am making a difference - from ensuring their hearing aids or internet connection are working to connecting with their friends or medical assistants, my approach can best be summed up as personal, tailored, and empathetic. I provided care for stoke rehabilitation including speech and language therapy. I have also worked with people with anxiety and depression as well as self-harm. I have experienced in person care including assist with hygiene, eating, cooking, cleaning and medication administrative tasks which need support such Gp appointments, social events and grooming making sure the client look presentable. I have a full clean diving license and enjoy taking clients out to meet friends and social events. Being a carer was the first job I started with and when I took a different career path way, I went into childcare and enjoyed it because I was using the same skills I had always such as being patient, listening, healthy & safety, clear communication & documents. After some years I decided to go back to college and progressed to University and qualify as Health & Social Care professional. I enjoy taking long walks in the parks, I am a good cook, like watching sports such as tennis sometimes football, I enjoy listening to music and chatting about current affair , listening to radio & tv and like gardening/ plants.
