Of course, these roles had many differences between them, but they also offered many shared experiences that are still very useful today in my work as a carer. For example, I have a lot of experience with: Creating action plans on how best to meet an individual’s needs Learning to recognise a person’s ‘normal’ behaviour patterns, in order to recognise when something is amiss and needs looking into Planning fun, creative activities to stimulate fun and wellbeing Working closely with an individual’s family, to ensure we can do what is best to meet their needs Consulting other professionals (medical, safeguarding) so that vital information is shared and acted on Carrying out risk assessments as necessary, and other Health and Safety paperwork, to ensure the individual’s safety at all times Reporting on matters of Safeguarding to the relevant external bodies Managing, administering and recording the individual’s medications First Aid training And many more besides!  SA1 7DR 101918 Hello there I am Ben, I have worked in the care industry for over 10 years with my first career as a chef, I have always been drawn by the care industry as it is within my nature to help others, My reasons for working in this field- from my early teens I was a young carer for my grandfather who had Alzheimer's and my mum had COPD, through this personal experience I am able to deliver an understanding empathy to my work. Why you should choose me - I treat people with the same respect and dignity that I expect my own family to be treated with, due to my 10 year career as a NHS healthcare support worker I have worked with a vast range of health conditions (there are not many I can think of that I haven't worked with) I pride my self on having a friendly manner and being non judgemental. as well as my experience I also have a strong academic profile in the healthcare field with a health and social care degree, all current manual handling/hygiene qualifications, I am also a current adult Nursing student, this allows me to undertake any additional tasks such as liaising with other health care professional that maybe involved within your needs. I do not usually like the term carer, this may sound a little odd as you have probably googled the term career to come across this cite but I do not see myself as a carer for my clients, I see myself more as a personal assistant. I adopt a "can do attitude to all my work' and have assisted many of my clients to help with their overall well-being, an example of this is a client whose kitchen and living room walls were a bit tired, so whilst I was there for companionship and hygiene, I painted the walls as this helped improve wellbeing which is what I am all about. The point I'm making is if I can do it, I will do it, but please don't ask me to put shelves up, my wife has been waiting for around 5 years for a curtain rail to be put up! I have 3 children 2yr. 8yr. 15yr olds, all my hobbies include spending time with the children my interests are wellbeing/holistic therapies, (I have just completed my qualifications in Indian head massage and sports massage and also undertaking a course to massage people with cancer) as you can probably gather from this statement, I like to keep busy. I am currently in my twelfth year as a qualified occupational therapist and have a breadth of experience working in both people's homes and on hospital wards. My work has allowed me the opportunity to work as both a rehabilitation-focused occupational therapist and with people who have long-term or life-long disabilities. Prior to qualifying as an occupational therapist I worked for four years as a carer/hcsw and it was this work that gave me a passion for helping others to live to their full potential, in comfort and with dignity. I currently work for Swansea Council as an Occupational Therapist it would therefore not be appropriate for me to take additional within this area.
