Of course, these roles had many differences between them, but they also offered many shared experiences that are still very useful today in my work as a carer. For example, I have a lot of experience with: Creating action plans on how best to meet an individual’s needs Learning to recognise a person’s ‘normal’ behaviour patterns, in order to recognise when something is amiss and needs looking into Planning fun, creative activities to stimulate fun and wellbeing Working closely with an individual’s family, to ensure we can do what is best to meet their needs Consulting other professionals (medical, safeguarding) so that vital information is shared and acted on Carrying out risk assessments as necessary, and other Health and Safety paperwork, to ensure the individual’s safety at all times Reporting on matters of Safeguarding to the relevant external bodies Managing, administering and recording the individual’s medications First Aid training And many more besides! My care experience has included working as a Live-in Carer for two different positions, as well as an Overnight Carer position. I'm fairly flexible about my next role. WHAT I’M LOOKING FOR: My ideal role would be a live-in carer position, on a permanent basis, with approximately 6 weeks off throughout the year. However, I am honestly very flexible with this and would much rather find the right person to care for, than the right hours. I am open to any possible arrangement, whether that is short-term, long-term, nights only etc., and am happy to negotiate that based on your needs. BECOMING YOUR CARER: As a carer, I understand that my main responsibility is to support you, the client. My purpose is to help you to live as independently as possible, with the reassurance that I am there to support you and enable this. Working with you - the client: Firstly, we would work together to create a personalised Care Plan, that explains how I can meet your needs as a carer. From time to time, we will look over this plan again to discuss how things are going and what we might change. On a day-to-day level, I will offer support wherever you might want it, such as: Laundry and Housekeeping Cooking and meal preparation Shopping Personal care including dressing Medication prompts Pet care Companionship when you want it, and time by yourself when preferred Driving you to your appointments and taking you for trips out and about Helping you to maintain family links and friendships. Sharing your hobbies with you. Perhaps we like some of the same things? My own hobbies include reading, visiting the library, watching old Hollywood movies, days out in the countryside, visiting tea rooms, singing, playing board games, watching football matches. From time to time, I will probably need to involve other people in your care; with your permission of course. For example, your family members and friends. I could communicate with your family and friends to let them know how you are. This might be through phone calls, emails, text messages, or in person. I can also liaise with them to set up opportunities for you to meet up and socialise, if you wish. There may also be times where I will need to work alongside medical professionals to make sure you are keeping in good health. I can help you keep on top of appointments, and attend these with you if you like, to communicate key information. Where medical care plans have been issued, I can help you to put them into action and review them afterwards. Why you should choose me - I treat people with the same respect and dignity that I expect my own family to be treated with, due to my 10 year career as a NHS healthcare support worker I have worked with a vast range of health conditions (there are not many I can think of that I haven't worked with) I pride my self on having a friendly manner and being non judgemental. as well as my experience I also have a strong academic profile in the healthcare field with a health and social care degree, all current manual handling/hygiene qualifications, I am also a current adult Nursing student, this allows me to undertake any additional tasks such as liaising with other health care professional that maybe involved within your needs. I do not usually like the term carer, this may sound a little odd as you have probably googled the term career to come across this cite but I do not see myself as a carer for my clients, I see myself more as a personal assistant. I adopt a "can do attitude to all my work' and have assisted many of my clients to help with their overall well-being, an example of this is a client whose kitchen and living room walls were a bit tired, so whilst I was there for companionship and hygiene, I painted the walls as this helped improve wellbeing which is what I am all about. The point I'm making is if I can do it, I will do it, but please don't ask me to put shelves up, my wife has been waiting for around 5 years for a curtain rail to be put up! I have just completed my foundation degree in social care, which equates to a level 5 NVQ Personally, I have experience with caring for a friend who had secondary progressive MS, a partner who had N-Stage 4 Cancer and have cared for my ex partners 2 autistic sons along with my daughter who has also been diagnosed with Autism. I'm very active and enjoy going out and doing things in the community. Going to the beach, shopping, walking my dog, etc. I also like swimming, bowling, trampolining etc. When I'm home, I like watching Australian soaps and comedy films as well as cooking and property renovations. I can call from 2-8 hours a day, depending on your needs. If you need to travel, I am happy to support you on public transport or using my own car. £20 per weekday hourly rate £30 per evening, weekend, or bank holiday hourly rate £60 per hour emergency hourly rate (less than 24 hours notice) £390 live in day rate £1930 live in week rate Any travel using my personal car is charged at 45p per mile rounded up to the nearest mile. Any out of pocket expenses from any activities are paid for, by the client, for myself prior to the activity in order for the activity to go ahead (eg, parking, drinks/snacks, entry to activities if unable to get free carers entry, etc.) Invoices are sent out for the month by the 24th of the previous month. Since then, I have worked for numerous domiciliary agencies, nursing homes, residential homes, mental health homes, in schools and live-in companies. Throughout the years, I have experience with personal care, moving and handling, washing and dressing, changing pads, using health-care equipment, emptying catheters and attaching catheters to the night bags, prompting and administrating medications (tablets and liquids), companionship, cooking fresh meals and light cleaning. Prompting and feeding meals and prompting to drink fluids throughout the day. Also, going out with my clients, accompanying them to the doctors and hospital appointments. Doing their general shopping and run errands for my clients like picking up medications from the pharmacy. I have experience with clients who have suffered from dementia, cancer and clients with challenging behaviour. I've also provided care for clients who had parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis(MS), brain disease, bed-bound patients, end of life and palliative care.
