I have managed centres for people living with dementia symptoms, I managed services for the Alzheimers society and worked closely with palliative care and continuing care support services. Within these services, I initiated the need for care support plans to change , to improve support to people being cared for and their carers. I devolped the care plans for local Authority Services that provided palliative care funding and support, making them more person centred and inclusive. I am passionate about people and wherever possible to enhance quality of life and promote independence. Care is personal and very unique to each person, I am mindful and very supportive of choice in the way people wish to be supported. I moved to West sussex from London 9 years ago where I changed my career as Registered Manager and began part time work with Alzheimers society, then on to various private care. My change came as I decided to pursue my hobbies of craft and teaching mindfulness and meditation into a part time business, which Is offered through care I provide and inclusive for carers and families. I have remained supporting people with care needs,as this is set in my heart and is something I care very much for. Through my career I could see there was much more needed than essential care and decided to include, mindfulness to support people to manage life's challenges as they are happening, reducing stress and anxiety and improving wellbeing. I enjoy cooking, gardening, walks along the downs, swimming, fitness ,reading and have a wide range of music interests . I am friendly and calm by nature and have the ability to listen and support people the way they wish to be and am mindful of privacy. I am naturally compassionate and will endeavour to make sure people I work with feel they have my support, trust and understanding. I have a good sense of humour and a positive approach in life. Please note that my hourly rate is £22,non inclusive of parking. If you live in an area where parking restrictions apply, we will need to discuss parking rates , due to the costly rates some areas charge, or of course we can look into parking permits the council authorise for carers . Bank Holiday Rates will be at 1.5 , exception of Christmas Day ,Boxing Day and New Years Day which will be charged at 2x hourly rate. I occasionally I work add hoc weekends (when I have availability), please note the weekend hourly rate is £25.00ph . Learns quickly what help a person needs and able to assist them to organise their lives to include trips to beauty spots and tea out. Good ability to liaise with other professionals to get the support they need, whether from gp, optician, dentist, or social services. I can also drive them to appointments. I find out what meals they enjoy most and make sure they have as wide a variety as possible of fruits and vegetables. I enjoy cooking and am able to cook meat based traditional meals and plant based wholegrain meals. When I cook roast chicken, I make many meals afterwards, including soup from the bones. I was brought up on a market garden and enjoy helping in the garden. I love nature and the countryside, music, Art, books, reading aloud, poetry and crossword puzzles. I understand the benefit of going out to sit in nature, a concert, or having friends round, and I am happy to facilitate social occasions and make sure they are centred around the person I am caring for. I know how to be in the background but can also be sociable if invited. I have worked as a student nurse in Brighton hospitals for 1.5 years, as a domicilliary carer in Brighton for 2 years and in a care home in Hove for 2 years and have been a live-in carer for 8 years. I have looked after a gentleman who had Alzheimers, from diagnosis, as his live-in carer until he had to go into a care home because his house was unsuitable when he could no longer walk. His family are happy to give me a reference. I have been a live-in carer helping a woman walk again with rehabilitation exercises given by a physiotherapist. Also looked after a woman after she had had a hip operation, helping with exercises and going for walks. As a qualified Shiatsu practitioner (dip Shiatsu massage) and a Reiki practitioner and teacher of many years, people find my presence very calming and reassuring. I like to laugh and see the humour in most things and am able to laugh at myself. I am calm in a crisis and have done first aid training many times. I worked as a volunteer in Brighton in St John's ambulance service for over a year. I believe that healthy people, if behaving responsibly and testing very regularly, should be able to choose whether or not to have the Covid vaccination, and I am not going to have the vaccination at present. I protect my health rigorously and test regularly. I do not work with people with extremely challenging or aggressive behaviour but understand everyone, especially if they have a debillitating illness, need to express their frustration at times.
