On leaving school I went into farming, then to University to study Countryside Management, after which I took a few years out to volunteer in my home town, training as an advisor at my local Citizens' Advice Bureau and with the WRVS delivering Meals On Wheels. In 1997 I moved to London and spent an exciting five years as a Transport Planner and then four years in the Lake District National Park Authority as Traffic & Transport Officer. I then spent two years as a Medical Secretary at a GP practice, consolidating my medical knowledge, and left there to spend the past five years looking after my progressively ill mother, who was nursed in bed with a permanent catheter for the last two years of her life. I was her sole advocate, had Power of Attorney for both financial and health & welfare, and managed her personal affairs as well as her care. I enjoy cleaning, organising, cooking and helping people to get the very most out of life in a limiting situation... I have seen both sides of caring: as both a carer and a broker of care packages. I care about timekeeping, doing things properly and providing added value.
